David Hampshire has been a professional actor since 1966 when he played the title role in the BBC TV series Jennings. He began writing in 2001 and to date he has written twenty one short plays and three full-length plays.
David’s plays are written for the stage within a single setting but they readily lend themselves to radio and television adaptation. Two of his plays form part of a six part situation comedy written under the series title Tom’s Tales.
Moments In Life, a three volume anthology of David’s short plays, and his full-length plays Face Value and Funny Turns are published by Stagescripts Ltd.
His latest writing Keep Your Sunny Side Up! a play with music based on the life and career of Dame Gracie Fields has been nominated in four categories in the 2025/26 Fringe Theatre Awards with David being nominated for Best New Musical (Book). Keep Your Sunny Side Up! will be published by Stagescripts Ltd. in early 2026 and will next be produced in London in March 2026. Please see the NEWS page for details.
